Abstract
The Agricultural Census of 2014 was carried out to fulfill the following objectives:
- Provide information on the structure of agriculture in Armenia, disaggregated at National, marz and community levels. More specifically, the census collected data on agricultural land, livestock, agricultural machinery and equipment, agricultural facilities, human capital in agriculture, labour input, agricultural cooperatives, etc.
- Establish an integral survey system for agriculture
- Create a statistical register of rural households
- Ensure international comparability of produced statistics.
Data collected through the census have been used to define a system of monitoring indices for different dimensions, such as poverty, food security, agricultural production, and gender related issues.
The disseminated microdata, documented by this DDI, represent a 10% anonymized sample of the original microdata.

Version Notes
The 10% anonymized sample has been initially disseminated through the ARMSTAT microdata database adopting a flat format (all variables stored in one household level file). In order to enhance data usability and clarity, data have been reorganized in a hierarchical structure, with variables referring to different statistical units stored in different files. This operation resulted in the production of a total of four files: one household level file, an individual level file, and two crop level files, the first for annual plantations and the second for permanent crops.

Universe
The universe of the Agricultural Census includes individual (rural) households, individual agricultural holdings of urban population, individual holdings of members of horticultural associations, communities, all agricultural holdings with legal status, private entrepreneurs, and, collective holdings (penitentiary institutions, military units, social care institutions for the elderly and disabled, educational institutions, and scientific experimental units).
The Agricultural Census has also considered units which implemented the following types of agricultural activities (irrespective of whether the agricultural activities were their major or secondary type of activity):
- Cultivation of agricultural crops (grain crops and leguminous crops, technical crops, potato, vegetable crops, melon crops, forage crops, fruit and berries, grapes).
- Cultivation of flowers, mushroom, saplings, seedlings, etc.
- Livestock and poultry breeding.
- Production of plant cultivation and cattle-breeding products.
- Activities related to maintaining the agricultural lands in favorable agricultural and environmental conditions, etc.
The Agricultural Census did not consider the units which have only the following:
- Stables, areas designated for horse riding,
- Slaughter- houses or points of animal sale.
The units engaged only in the following activities were not considered either:
- Hunting and forestry.
The disseminated microdata is a 10% anonymized sample of the original microdataset and it includes only 1) individual rural households; 2) individual farms of urban population engaged in agriculture; 3) Individual farms of members of horticultural/gardeners' associations. Data for communities and legal entities are not part of the disseminated microdata file.

The Agricultural Census of 2014 has been implemented using three questionnaires:
1) Questionnaire for individual rural households, individual farms of urban population engaged in agriculture, and individual farms of members of horticultural/gardeners' associations: 1-AC QUESTIONNAIRE OF AGRICULTURAL CENSUS
2) Questionnaire for communities: 2-AC QUESTIONNAIRE OF AGRICULTURAL CENSUS IN RURAL AND URBAN COMMUNITIES
3) Questionnaire for legal entities: 3AC QUESTIONNAIRE OF AGRICULTURAL CENSUS FOR LEGAL ENTITIES AND PRIVATE ENTREPRENEURS.
The disseminated microdata have been collected using the first questionnaire in the above list.
The questionnaire used for individual rural households, individual farms of urban population engaged in agriculture, and individual farms of members of horticultural/gardeners' associations (1-AC QUESTIONNAIRE OF AGRICULTURAL CENSUS) is articulated as follows:
- Section I - General information on the household: location and contact information of the household; head of household name and surname; manager of household agricultural activities; type of household.
- Section II - Lands of the household: Area of household lands by tenure and use.
- Section III - Area under agricultural plants and permanent cropland: Area sown with temporary crops; area under perennial crops; use of irrigation; irrigated area; sources of water for irrigation; irrigation methods.
- Section IV - Household lands in other communities/settlements (Agricultural lands, Subsistence lands and other lands): Possession of land in other communities.
- Section V - Plant protection products and fertilizers: Use of fertilizers and other agro-chemical products; Area and quantity of fertilizers applied.
- Section VI - Farm animals and birds: Number of farm animals and birds in stock at the 10/10/2014.
- Section VII - Fish farming: Engagement of household in fish farming.
- Section VIII - Agricultural buildings and structures: Buildings/structures to keep agricultural animals and birds and to store agricultural food products; buildings/structures to store agricultural machinery and equipment; agricultural machinery and equipment; use of animal power for agricultural activities.
- Section IX - Labour force: Sex, age, education and labour input from household members engaged in agricultural activities of the household; external workers by gender.
- Section X - Use and processing of agricultural products: Areas of use of agricultural products produced in the household; production and sales of processed agricultural products.
- Section XI - Agritourism: Engagement of household in the provision of agritourism services.
- Section XII - Credits and subsidies: Credits and subsidies received for agricultural purposes and sources of their provision.
- Section XIII - Agricultural cooperatives: Membership of household to cooperatives; forms of agricultural cooperatives and area of activity.
- Section XIV - Taking an account within the household: Accounting of agricultural production performed by household; person answering questions in the questionnaire.

Confidentiality Declaration
The authorized body of the 2014 Agricultural Census (AC), will ensure the confidentiality of initial (individual) data in line with sub-paragraph 3, paragraph 1, Article 6 of the law of the Republic of Armenia on Agricultural Census. The published microdata file represents an anonymized 10% sample of the orginal census data.
Conditions
The 10% anonymized sample of the Agricultural Census 2014 is disseminated as Public Use File.
